I would love to hear what you all think of this story!

  1. Wow! Very inspiring. And more "practical" than I thought it might be. I liked the description of sacrificial giving as choosing to spend less on yourselves so that you can give more to others..not like taking out a loan to meet your church pledge. I also liked this quote: “We had achieved getting behinds in the seats, but I realized that all we had really done was accumulate crowds of spectators who were not moving toward deeper faith and service.” and this one: “Jesus said, ‘I come to proclaim the good news to the poor and the oppressed.’ If it’s not good news to the poor, it’s not the gospel.”

  2. both good lines! I think what struck me was that the people had a very specific focused reason NOT to spend on themselves. It's really helpful to have a name and faces to pray for and picture when you're giving something up. Instead of some vague general "good." I wondered if I shouldn't pick some organization i really believe in, and make saving for that specific place a goal... like whatever i don't spend in my weekly budget can go to them. It would put a new perspective on whether or not Abby really needed a 3rd pair of shoes!
